How to Save Money on Spirit Airlines

As you may already know Spirit Airlines is a low-cost airline. However they charge additional fees for baggage, seat selection, snacks and even to print a boarding pass at the airport Kiosk. Make sure you adhere to all the fine print conditions in order to enjoy the ultra-low fares. In this post, I would like to share a few additional tips to save money.

Book your tickets at the Airport

It’s the easiest fee to avoid if you live near the airport. Spirit charges a “Passenger Usage Charge” that’s between $8.99 and $20.99 each way if you book online. To avoid it, just go to the airport and buy the ticket from a Spirit counter. Let me show you how I saved 180$ on my family trip(4 people) from Philadelphia to San Juan(Puerto Rico). For this trip, the “Passenger Usage Charge” Per person (round trip) was 45$. When I booked from the airport I saved 180$ on this trip for 4 people. Even after paying airport parking, you will save more money by booking your ticket from the airport.

If you can’t pack light, pay your baggage fees using AMEX PLATINUM

Did you know that you can reimburse your baggage fees? Yes, you read it correctly. If you are an AMEX PLATINUM cardholder you can reimburse up to 200$ every year on your baggage fees. AMEX has great benefits and this is definitely a good one. The annual fee is 550$ but if you are a frequent traveler then I would highly recommend considering AMEX for all the travel benefits.
