Tracy Arm Fjord is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the world. You have to book a tour to visit this breathtaking Fjord. It is located about 45 miles (72 km) south of Juneau. I have listed everything you need to know for a comfortable trip and what to expect.
Tour Selection – There are many tour operators available on the internet. I would recommend Adventure bound Alaska tours (http://www.adventureboundalaska.com/). It’s a family run business and the ship Captain was very experienced & knowledgeable.
- Left Juneau port – Start of our trip
Transportation – The tour starts from Juneau, downtown. We stayed in downtown so we walked to the tour office. You can get a local taxi as well.
Bring your own Food –Juneau to Tracy Arm Fjord is an approximate 3-hour boat ride and the tour starts early morning (7:30 am). I would highly recommend bringing your own food which you can enjoy along with the beautiful Alaskan scenery. There were few food items on board (sandwich-5$, chips-1$, tea-1$, cup noodles-2$). The price was reasonable and you have to pay in cash.
- Beautiful sunny day to enjoy Alaskan scenery

Time to Explore: It’s a 3-hour boat ride, so plan to spend 8-9 hours for this tour.
Cost – The tour costs $165 and I spent another $10 on my tea/snacks. The cost of this tour is totally worth it. It’s a different experience to see a Glacier wall so close. Highly recommended.
Ice Calving – It was almost three hours and everyone was waiting to have a first glance of Tracy Arm Fjord. The boat entered a narrow lane and everyone started running outside. There was a gigantic, blue and white snow wall (approx. 300-400 feet) in front of us. The captain stopped the boat few feet away. There was dead silence as the boat stopped running. Everyone was enjoying the moment and trying to capture the beauty of that place. After few minutes, a huge block of ice fell apart from the wall creating this ear-splitting bang. We stood in front of Tracy Arm Fjord for 45 minutes, staring at it and enjoyed ice calving.
